Board of Directors Welcome New Members and Leadership for 2024-2025

August 23, 2024

In July 2024 the Carolina Raptor Center Board of Directors formally welcomed two new members for three-year terms of service – Riley Clements and Wendi Fleener.

Riley Clements leads business development for DPR Construction for the Charlotte and Greenville markets. With over 16 years in the construction industry, Riley has worked with some of the largest organizations in the region. As a native Charlottean, Riley takes pride in having an impact in Charlotte’s growth and development. Riley and his wife Mckenna (another Charlottean) have two young boys who are the joy of their lives. Riley will be instrumental in Carolina Raptor Center’s plans for growth in the years ahead.

Wendi Fleener is the Director of Clean Energy for Duke Energy Corporation.  In her work she’s focused on developing, implementing and the on-going management of voluntary renewable programs that help customers accelerate and reach their own sustainability goals. She has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Appalachian State University and an MBA from Queens University of Charlotte. She previously volunteered with the Arts & Science Council and was on the board of Council for Children’s Rights. Wendi is an avid traveler who prefers outdoor adventures over the beach, is a long running Commissioner of a Fantasy Football League with 11 of her closest friends and enjoys winding down the day with the monthly read for her book club.

Joining two new board members are three members returning for second three-year terms – Matt Campbell, Neil Jonas, and Leah Mitcham.

In addition to the new members Sherri Belfield begins her two-year term as Board Chair. Ty Shaffer steps into the role of Vice Chair and Dr. Sarah Fatherly steps into the role of Secretary, while Michael Wetmore continues his role as Treasurer.

Four board members completed their terms of service in June 2024 – Kristy Crist, Scott Harris, Michelle Tallman, and Nicol Matthews.

Erin Katzner, President/CEO shares “I am grateful for the service that Scott, Michelle, and Nicol gave to the Carolina Raptor Center during a challenging period that included a global pandemic and the passing of longtime Executive Director Jim Warren. I am particularly thankful for Kristy’s leadership as I relocated to Charlotte and stepped into this leadership role. I am excited to work with Sherri Belfield as our new Board Chair and know we will accomplish a lot together as we plan for the bright future of the Carolina Raptor Center!”
