INTERNSHIPS
Avian Keeper Interns at Carolina Raptor Center work closely with Avian Ambassador Team staff to learn about husbandry, training, and education. Interns will help care for our avian ambassadors by preparing diets, distributing food, and cleaning enclosures. They will also learn positive reinforcement training techniques and present keeper chats to our visitors to connect the public to the natural world.
Qualifications
To qualify for this internship, applicants must be at least 18 years old. Interns should be able to lift 50 lbs and capable of working outside in all weather conditions. Each intern must be able to work self-guided and with people from all backgrounds in a fast-paced environment. All interns must have a willingness to speak up and ask questions as well as an ability to follow both written and verbal instructions.
Requirements
Interns are accepted each academic semester, including a summer session, with some flexibility in start and end dates. Interns will receive general onboarding training with our volunteer manager as well as additional training specific to their position. This is an unpaid position. Interns are required to work at least 3 days per week. Must be willing to work weekends and holidays.

Raptor Hospital Interns assist staff in providing all basic husbandry and medical needs to wild patients admitted to the Raptor Hospital. Through hands-on learning and coaching, Raptor Hospital interns play a critical role in the successful rescue, rehabilitation, and release of injured, sick, and orphaned raptors admitted to Carolina Raptor Center’s Raptor Hospital.
Qualifications
To qualify for this internship, applicants must be at least 18 years old. Interns should be excited to work in a professional wildlife rehabilitation setting. Each intern must be able to work self-guided and with people from all backgrounds in a fast-paced environment. All interns must be observant, willing to speak up and ask questions, and able able to follow written and verbal instructions.. Interns need to have a strong stomach to assist in food preparation and witness a variety of injuries. Interns should be able to work outside in all weather conditions and willing to learn CRC welfare standards, including euthanasia.
Requirements
This is an unpaid position. Interns are required to work at least three days per week. You must complete one full shift (8 hours) per week, in addition to their other shifts. Opening shifts: 8-4, closing shifts: 10-6, though shorter shifts may be accommodated.
- Summer session: Interns are expected to work a minimum of 25 hours in our Raptor Hospital, with the term spanning from mid-May or early June until mid-August or
early September. - Spring session: Interns are expected to be part-time (20-25 hours) with the term spanning from January until mid-April or early May.
- Fall session: Interns are expected to be part-time (~15-20 hours per week), with the term spanning from mid-August or early September until December.
Start and end dates are flexible. However, interns are expected to have a consistent schedule.

Social Media Interns at Carolina Raptor Center work closely with our Marketing Manager to gain hands-on experience in social media management, digital marketing, and content creation within a non-profit environment. The ideal candidate will be passionate about wildlife conservation, have a keen eye for engaging content, and be eager to learn and contribute to our mission.

To qualify for this internship, applicants must be at least 18 years old. Education Interns at Carolina Raptor Center work closely with our Wildlife Educator to gain hands-on experience in environmental education program development, implementation, and evaluation. Interns will aid in updating, creating and maintaining educational materials as well as participating in keeper chats and specials events. Interns will also learn best practices and techniques for sharing information with guests on raptors and conservation messaging to connect visitors to the natural world. Note this internship does not work directly with live animals.
