WILDLIFE REHABILITATION IS THE TREATMENT AND CARE OF INJURED, ORPHANED, OR SICK WILD ANIMALS SO THAT THEY CAN BE RELEASED BACK TO THE WILD. THE RAPTOR CENTER ADMITS BETWEEN 800-1000 INJURED RAPTORS A YEAR WITH THE GOAL BEING THE RELEASE OF THESE PATIENTS BACK INTO THE WILD.

THE REHABILITATION PROCESS
Intake Exam
Every raptor that is admitted to the Raptor Rescue facility is thoroughly examined to identify its injuries. Once injuries are diagnosed, a treatment plan is created. Treatments may include medications, fluids, wound care, bandages, and surgeries.
Orthopedic surgery and PT
Each year we perform dozens of orthopedic surgeries to repair many different types of bone fractures. Part of the recovery process after an orthopedic procedure involves periodic physical therapy (PT). The medical team also spends a significant amount of time on wound care and other soft tissue related injuries.
Release and Release Evaluations
The last step of the rehabilitation process is release! Our team conditions and evaluates their flight and hunting skills to ensure they will be successful after release. We release more than 200 raptors every year!
Banding
Almost every raptor that is released is fitted with a Federal band that contributes to our data collection if the bird is ever recovered. These bands can give us information about the survivability post-rehabilitation.
